Choosing your tutor or thesis advisor is an important decision. It can also be a difficult one, as the area of interest and expectations of the professor you choose to work with will strongly influence the framework of your curriculum and the direction of your research.
Before you contact the professor, it is important that you take the time to carefully review his or her research pages to see if they match with your area of interest.

1. Carefully read the rules and regulations for Masters students:
2. Create a list of courses that you would like to take.
3.
a) Prof. Guzzella: Email Prof. Guzzella: lguzzella@ethz.ch (copy Ms. Fattor: afattor@ethz.ch) at the beginning of the semester to set up a 30 minute appointment to discuss your selection and to ask Prof. Guzzella any non-administrative questions.
b) Prof. D'Andrea: Please note that due to his upcoming sabbatical, Prof. D'Andrea is unable to act as tutor for students that have not been assigned to him in their admission letter. However, depending on your tutor's policy, you are free to do your semester or master project at the institute. In particular, you do not need an IDSC tutor to do a project or thesis at IDSC.
4. For administrative questions: please contact Ms. Munz katmunz@ethz.ch or Ms. Fattor afattor@ethz.ch.
5. Leave the signed Tutor/Student Agreement with Ms. Munz (MLK 32.3). She will copy it and give the original to D-MAVT administration.
The Tutor/Student Agreement must be received by us and submitted to DMAVT within 3 weeks after the start of the semester.
ETH Zurich has no institutionalized doctorate admission process; each professor decides whether he or she has an open PhD position. If you are interested in applying to be a PhD student, please click here.
